WHAT IS EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories (Shapiro, 1989a, 1989b). It is an empirically supported (well researched and documented), structured model of psychotherapy that involves working with memories, physical sensations, history of core self beliefs, and emotions to eliminate the residual pain that has developed emotionally, physically, and cognitively. This process has recorded that once this pain is resolved it is resolved, period.
